The most foolish statement ever to be said is “God is foolish”. No matter how stupid or silly the directions and instructions of God could be to the sight of men; it is never expected of men to make up an assumption or conclusion that such are foolishness, as men in such presumptions have already attributed that to Him (His nature). For His word cannot be separated from Him. One of my brother in Christ (Adegoke Ayobami) once said (through his post on WhatsApp) that; “no matter how stupid and not making sense what God asked you to do, is to men, or His word that He puts into your mouth, don’t hesitate in carrying out His task and speak out because He is God – who knew you before you were formed in the womb and before you were consecrated he appointed you as a priest or heir”.
The Word foolish(ness) is derived from the Greek word moria meaning illness, that is absurdity, while English Dictionary defines it as lacking good sense or judgement, realistic or characteristic of a fool (a person with poor judgement or little intelligence). The “Wisdom of God” is from the Greek word Sophia, and the English Dictionary defines Wisdom as the ability to know and apply spiritual truths; the ability to apply relevant knowledge in an insightful way, especially to different situations from that in which the knowledge was gained; the ability to make a decision based on the combination of knowledge, experience and intuitive understanding.
Also, from the definitions of foolishness above, foolishness could only be attributed to men (person) not God, even as beauty is of God not ugliness (more expositions are embedded in my upcoming book). Men have always been the ones giving names to the opposites of God’s nature because the devil and his cohorts are the ones that had virtually portrayed the origin of such nomenclatures for men to emulate. Although God created men to be wise – in His image, but their wisdom is quantified as nought (1Cor 2:6 - Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:) in the Spirit because of the absence of His wisdom meant to be resident; if only they receive the life of the express image of God (Christ – Heb 1:3); then their wisdom will be quantified powerful (spiritually).
Wisdom is very essential for men to be relevant (Pro 4:7 - Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.) but man will always be regarded as a fool outside of Christ – in himself or the world (Pro 26:12 - Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him., 1Cor 2:8). If John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus could still be foolish (Luk 7:19) and still be professed by Christ to be the least; it’s because the wisdom of God is to be obtained only in Christ.
Although John was the greatest amongst those that are born of women (Matt 11:11 - Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.) but could not be compared to those born of the Spirit and the Word. John was still greater than Solomon - 2Chr 1:12 - Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any (king) after thee have the like. (whose wisdom many believers enquire of God to bestow upon them ignorantly; not being aware of God’s wisdom in them through Christ (Luk 11:31 - The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.); yet men marvel so greatly at Christ’s wisdom (Matt 13:54). You can check the difference right from their early stage and affirm the truth – (Luk 1:80 - And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.) and (Luk 2:40, 52 - And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.)
What did Apostle Paul clarified concerning the foolishness and wisdom of men, the world and God? He related foolishness to being ignorant of the power of God through the Gospel (thereby rejecting the preaching of the cross) and wisdom as knowing the power of God through the Gospel by preaching (thereby believing) – 1Cor 1:18, 23-24, 2:7.
1Cor 1:19-21; Since the wisdom of men and the world could not fathom the nature of God, God had to implement the foolishness of preaching the Gospel to save men. This was to demolish the wisdom of the world and men (Vs 19-20, 27-28), so that they would not glory in his presence (Vs 29); for they seek wisdom outside of God without reverence and are puffed up (1Cor 1:22).
Now, knowing fully well that God’s wisdom is His presence, He chose to demonstrate in manners unseemingly to them; that is why Apostle Paul said (1Cor 1:25-29 - Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.). He went further to laying emphasis on who we are in Christ Jesus, that we glory in the Lord for we are made with wisdom and other gifts (1Cor 1:30-31 - But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.).
(1Cor 2:1-5) Furthermore, that we would better trust in His wisdom (than man’s wisdom) which is in Christ being demonstrated of Spirit and of power by the preaching of the Gospel. Although the (hidden) wisdom of God was not known to the princes of this world but it has been revealed to us by His Spirit (even more – mysteries, that is, the deep things of God). Since we now have the dwelling of the Spirit of God in our Spirit (1Cor 2:11-16) – spirit of man, we therefore are being taught by the Spirit (even as we have the mind of Christ) the things of the Spirit that are freely given to us of God.
Therefore beloved, even as the Spirit of God is the Spirit of Wisdom; we ought to subject to Him and learn from Him as we walk in dimensions with wisdom and not foolishness.
